Good News. Great Joy.
Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan’s Purse, an international relief organization. It is their mission to provide local partners around the world with shoeboxes filled with small toys, hygiene items, and school supplies as a means of reaching out to children in their own communities with the Good News of Jesus Christ. They ship these gifts outside of the United States to children affected by war, poverty, natural disaster, famine, and disease; and to children living on Native American reservations in the U.S.
This is not aid, but a gift to children who don’t normally receive it, for the purposes of spreading the gospel message to unreached or under-reached areas of the World.
Mount Calvary Church is committed as a church body to packing 300 quality, gift-filled shoe boxes together as a church and school family. There are several ways you can participate!
Pack a Shoebox.
Pick up a shoebox, pick a target age and gender, and stuff it to the brim with quality toys, school supplies, hygiene items and at least one item that will make the child go WOW! Make sure to pay the $9 shipping online and print a Follow Your Box label so you can track where your shoebox ends up! Need suggestions for what to put into the shoebox? Here are some ideas to get you started.
Completed shoeboxes can be dropped off in the church office, church lobby, or at school pick up / drop off from November 1st through November 15th.
Adopt a shoebox
Don’t have time to fill a box? Consider adopting a box! For a suggested donation of $20, we will fill a shoebox for you! You can donate one of two ways:
In-person: cash donations can be made in person either to the church office, the offering during church service, or with your child’s teacher. Please mark cash donations as Adopt-a-Box to make sure funds are allocated appropriately.
Online: Click here to donate online. The last day for Adopt a Box is Sunday, November 8th. Please note, this is a week earlier than the shoebox deadline. This is to ensure our volunteers have time to pack the shoeboxes before the deadline. $9 per box this year.
We need several volunteers to make sure things run smoothly. Whether it is praying over the shoeboxes and ministry, writing letters to the shoebox recipients, filling boxes, moving boxes, or shopping, there is a role for everyone who wants to participate!
You can find more thorough information by visiting the Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child website.
There is also an Operation Christmas Child display table with sample shoeboxes and some additional information.
Due to Covid-19, there will be no printable materials on the table this year. If you have a specific question that you can’t find the answer to, feel free to contact our Operation Christmas Child project leader email Daisy Allison. She will be happy to answer your questions.
